Advising info

Note: Dr. Rumbough advises first-year exploratory (undeclared) students at BU. So this information is primarily for them. If you are a Communication Studies major, please see http://departments.bloomu.edu/commstud/Advisement.html

How do I find a major?

  1. Don’t rule anything out until you talk to an expert in that area of study. Job security, a good salary, and rewarding careers can be found in more places than you might imagine.

  2. Go to the Majors/Minors Fair in the fall semester (usually held in late September in the Kehr Union Ballroom). Talk to people, pick up brochures!

  3. Take the Focus II to connect your interests, skills, personality and values to possible careers and majors.

  4. If you are taking a class that you really like, stop by the office hours of the professor and ask about career paths for that major.

  5. Talk to your friends and family about what they do. They can give you ideas about careers and majors you that would be good for you.

  6. A complete list of majors can be found here: https://www.bloomu.edu/academics/programs

  7. Here is an Information Chart that has more information about majors and minors at BU.
